PGY1 Pharmacy

Maria Arlia, PharmD

Maria Arlia, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Arlia is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and is a 2024 graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include cardiology, emergency medicine, transplant, and medication safety. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal quality improvement project evaluating the cost associated with medication redispenses of sterile products from the inpatient pharmacy. In her free time, Maria enjoys drawing and painting, spending time outside, and learning how to speak Italian.

Maxwell Herbert, PharmD

Maxwell Herbert, PharmD

Dr. Maxwell Herbert is originally from Brentwood, CA and is a 2024 graduate from the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy in Denver, Colorado. His clinical interests include hematology/oncology and pediatrics. This year, he will be completing a longitudinal quality improvement project evaluating ways to improve upon the appropriateness of oral antibiotic agents and length of treatment prescribed to patients at time of discharge. In his free time, Max enjoys hiking, cooking, watching movies and playing board games.

Beth Kernodle, PharmD

Beth Kernodle, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Kernodle is originally from Goose Creek, SC and is a 2024 graduate from University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal quality improvement project addressing optimization of IV iron use in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction. In her free time, Beth enjoys watching NASCAR and F1, eating at Texas Roadhouse, and exploring new breweries/wineries around Charlottesville. She has two sweet, sweet pets: Tippy Sue, a lab mix, and Santiago, a typical domestic shorthair cat.

Rachael Kral, PharmD

Rachael Kral, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Kral is originally from Versailles, KY and is a 2024 graduate from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include cardiology and solid organ transplant. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal research project on outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy service interventions during transitions of care. In her free time, Rachael enjoys reading, exploring coffee shops and wineries, and spending time outside with her dog, Poppy. 

Hannah McCullough, PharmD, MPH

Hannah McCullough, PharmD, MPH (she/her)

Dr. McCullough is originally from Kerrville, TX and graduated with her PharmD in 2024 from The University of Texas at Austin. She also has an MPH in Health Promotion and Behavior Theory from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, critical care, and population health. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal quality improvement project on optimizing the alcohol withdrawal management pathway at UVA Health. In her free time, Hannah enjoys reading, drinking Diet Dr. Pepper, laughing until her stomach hurts with her coresidents, knitting and crocheting, attending sporting events as social outings, and spending time with her two cats, Lunchbox and Rex. 

Kendal Newman, PharmD

Kendal Newman, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Newman is originally from Eldridge, IA and is a 2024 graduate from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include internal medicine and critical care. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal research project evaluating the effects of vitamin K administration in patients with cirrhosis. In her free time, Kendal enjoys trying new restaurants and wineries, playing pickleball, watching sports, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Ethan Nguyen, PharmD

Ethan Nguyen, PharmD (he/him)

Dr. Nguyen is originally from Harleysville, Pennsylvania and is a 2024 graduate from University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. His professional interests include critical care, and cardiology. This year, he will be completing a longitudinal research project evaluating dexmedetomidine dosing strategies in obese patients. In his free time, Ethan enjoys listening to music, watching soccer, cooking, trying new restaurants in Cville, playing board games, and is teaching himself how to play the guitar.

Leeann Williamson, PharmD, MBA, MS

Leeann Williamson, PharmD, MBA, MS (she/her)

Dr. Williamson is originally from Vinton, VA (near Roanoke, VA) and is a 2024 graduate from Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA. Her professional interests include pediatrics and infectious disease. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal research project on DOAC interference on anti-Xa levels with heparin drips in patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction. In her free time, Leeann enjoys drinking and exploring coffee shops, running, spending time with her co-residents, and spending time with her cat, Jack. She is also getting married this year, so she spends a lot of time with her fiancé navigating the wedding planning process!

Gabrielle Flynn

Gabrielle Flynn, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Flynn is originally from Fuquay-Varina, NC and is a 2024 graduate from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include specialty pharmacy and ambulatory care. This year, she will be completing a longitudinal research project evaluating the relationship between social determinants of health and cholesterol levels in patients with cystic fibrosis. In her free time, Gabby enjoys reading, baking, trying new ice cream flavors, and finding the best margarita in Charlottesville.

Farehaa Hussain, PharmD

Farehaa Hussain, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Hussain is originally from Greer, South Carolina and is a 2024 graduate from the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include process improvement and supply chain/340B. Her clinical interest areas are in solid organ transplant, oncology, and emergency medicine. This year, she will be completing a quality improvement on the reduction of postoperative opioid utilization in pediatric orthopedic surgery patients. In her free time, she enjoys reading, hiking, exercising, exploring new areas, and watching New Girl.

PGY2 Ambulatory Care

 

Emily Bowman, PharmD

Emily Bowman, PharmD (she/her)

 Dr. Emily Bowman is the current PGY2 in Ambulatory Care and completed her PGY1 residency training at UVA Health. She is originally from Mount Clare, WV, and is a 2023 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy in Morgantown, WV. Her professional interests include chronic disease state management and endocrinology. This year she will complete a longitudinal research project evaluating pharmacist involvement with Medicare Annual Wellness Visits. Outside of pharmacy, Emily enjoys trying new restaurants and ice cream shops, traveling, and spending quality time with her husband and their cat, Penny.


PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy

 

Hanna Haddad

Hanna Haddad, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Haddad is the current PGY2 in Cardiology and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of Virginia Health. She is from Grapevine, Texas and is a 2023 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. This year, she will complete a research project on statin use and post-operative atrial fibrillation following cardiac surgery. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys running (although the Charlottesville hills may be brutal compared to flat Texas), exploring new restaurants, and spending her Saturdays at the IX Park farmer’s market with her Australian Shepherd, Maple.  


PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy

 

Mel Sokol

Melanie Sokol, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Sokol is the current PGY2 in Critical Care and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UVA Health. She is from Austin, Texas and is a 2023 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. This year, Mel will complete a research project on the use of thrombolytics in stroke with a focus on social determinants of health. Mel will also complete a quality improvement project evaluating the use of droxidopa in the ICU population. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exploring restaurants and wineries with friends, running, shopping, and spoiling her two cats – April and Bean.


PGY2 HSPAL

 

Corey Johnson

Corey Johnson, PharmD (he/him)

Dr. Johnson is originally from Hillsborough, NC and is a 2023 graduate from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy. His professional interests include clinical operations, formulary management, and process improvement. As a part of the HSPAL residency, he is in the Master of Science in Health Administration program at Virginia Commonwealth University, providing the opportunity to learn about healthcare systems. Additionally, he will complete a longitudinal project on the development of patient acuity scores. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, golfing, tennis, and exploring new places and eateries.

 

Gabriele Quaranta

Gabriele Quaranta, PharmD (he/him)

Dr. Quaranta is originally from Nashville, TN, and is a 2023 graduate of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. This year, he will continue his PGY2 in Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership, with professional interests in informatics, supply chain, and 340B. In addition to pursuing a Master of Science in Health Administration, he is completing a quality improvement project focused on optimizing barcode validation compliance for dispensing and preparation of patient-specific doses. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, exploring the many restaurants and wineries in the Charlottesville area, spending time outdoors with his dog Luca, playing pickleball, and most importantly, traveling.

Chase Egner

Chase Egner, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Egner is the current PGY2 in Emergency Medicine and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She is from Mansfield, OH and is a 2023 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in Columbus, OH. Her professional interests include emergency medicine and toxicology. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, baking, reading and trying new coffee shops and restaurants.

Sari Cohen

Sari Cohen, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Cohen is the current PGY2 Infectious Diseases (ID) resident. She is from St. Louis, MO and is a 2023 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include immunocompromised ID and antimicrobial stewardship. Outside of pharmacy she enjoys trying new restaurants, exploring wineries, and spending time with her dogs.

Emily Pickering, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Emily Pickering is the current PGY2 in Pharmacy Informatics and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She is from Forest, Virginia and is a 2023 graduate of the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include clinical decision support and data analytics. This year, she will complete a quality improvement project reviewing the process for implementing barcode scanning in operating rooms. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, climbing, traveling, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her cat, Sundae.


PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy

 

Abby Danos, PharmD

Abigail Danos, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Danos is the current PGY2 in Oncology and completed her PGY1 at Carolinas Medical Center. She is from Orlando, Florida and is a 2023 graduate of the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include thoracic oncology, GI oncology, and myeloma/lymphomas. This year, she will complete a research project on Real World Clinical Outcomes of Tarlatamab-dlle in SCLC Patients, and a quality improvement project on Bone Mineral Density Assessment and Prevention of Osteoporotic Fractures in Patients with Prostate Cancer. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys trying new sushi spots, hiking, and spending time with her two cats, Emmy and Topaz.

 

Linn Allworth

Linn Allworth, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Allworth is a current PGY2 Oncology resident and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy residency at UVA Health. She is originally from Oak Hill, VA and is 2023 graduate from the UNC Eshelman School of School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include the management of oral oncolytic therapy, both benign and malignant hematology, and drug development research. She is also looking forward to working in the melanoma clinic this year! Outside of pharmacy she enjoys hiking, practicing yoga, managing a small jungle of indoor plants, trying new foods, and making memories with family and friends.

Rebecca McDevitt, PharmD

Rebecca McDevitt, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Rebecca McDevitt is the current PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy resident and completed her PGY1 at Bon Secours Mercy Health – Memorial Regional Medical Center. She is from Richmond, VA, and is a 2023 graduate from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Her professional interests include neonatal intensive care, nutrition, hematology/oncology, and psychology. This year she will complete a research project on dose-reductions of mycophenolate in pediatric heart transplant patients. In her free time, she enjoys exploring nature trails with her dog, Olive, exploring restaurants and wineries in Charlottesville, hosting dinner parties for friends and co-residents, and reading.

Nicole Glatz, PharmD

Nicole Glatz, PharmD (she/her)

Dr. Glatz is originally from Dublin, OH and is a 2023 graduate from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy in Columbus, OH. Her professional interests include immunosuppression innovation, immunocompromised infection, and patient education. This year, she will complete a research project evaluating mycophenolate dose reductions in older adult lung transplant patients. Outside of pharmacy, Nicole enjoys exploring new restaurants in Charlottesville, yoga, listening to podcasts, and watching the buckeyes play!
